Wie kann ich mein Logo für den Upload optmieren?

Remember that Logobay automatically does conversions – and it does not recognize or correct content/formatting mistakes. Therefore checking and correcting the content/ formatting, along with the correct technical preparations, which will be explained below, is very important.

Since most graphic artists use Adobe Illustrator we have concentrated our instructions primarily on this market leader in graphic vector design. In the near future will also will be devoting attention to less used programs such as Corel Draw or VectorWorks.

Step 1: Make sure that your logo is set in CMYK color mode.

Under File → Document color mode CMYK should be activated. It is important for proper  color rendition that you work in the CMYK color sector. Logobay accepts only CMYK EPS files.

Step 2: Convert text objects into outlines

Mark the entire design surface (Command + a or Ctrl. + a) and select Type → Create outlines. Your fonts will be converted to vector shapes. This step is important since not everyone who will be using your logo (including conversion software) has installed the same fonts as you.

Schritt 3: Wandle Konturen in Flächen um

Mark the entire design surface (Command + a or Ctrl. + a) and select Object → Expand. Your contours will be converted to shapes. In this way your logo can be easily scaled without changing the relationship of contour size to the object size.

Step 4: No embedded pictures

If you have pixel pictures (for example, JPGs or TIFs) in your logo – get rid of them. They are not freely scaleable and will definitely lead to problems. In very few cases there may be applications in which a positioned pixel picture makes sense. But please don’t upload these in Logobay.

Step 5: Overprinting

Sometimes white objects are placed by mistake in overprints. When converting with Logobay these logos (or logo parts) then “disappear”. Check the overprint setting first using the overprint preview under View → Overprint preview. If one (or all) of the objects should disappear, correct the overprint settings under Window → Attributes. If necessary remove the check mark from “Overprint object”.

Hint: Overprint settings are a delicate topic. You should consult an experienced prepress technician if you are having problems.

Step 6: Saving an EPS

Under File → Save as… you can select the EPS format (in the selection below). Please save the most modern type of EPS possible, preferably CS4 EPS. If you are still working with an older Creative Suite version, then CS 3, 2 or 1. Do not save older formats, since these may not be compatible with Logobay. If you have older files from your archives and upload them in Logobay, please open them in your current Illustrator, check steps 1 to 5 above, and save a modern CS4 EPS in order to avoid problems in conversion.

Which spot color models does Logobay support?

Generally we support and convert all of the current full tone systems (spot colors, decorative colors), and of course Pantone and HKS. We are presently working on a complete list of options.

What happens if a conversion goes wrong?

For our conversions we use a very precise software – Ghost Script. It has been consistently further developed since the 1980s, and companies like HP have been using it for years for the conversion of printing data. In many cases checking over the source EPS helps. Please follow our optimizing steps.

If one of the conversions should fail (a yellow exclamation point becomes visible), we will be informed immediately. This often happens right at the beginning since – although our tests were thorough – we were not able to predict every individual problem case. In normal cases we complete the missing conversion and let you know by email. If you do not receive service within 48 hours, please contact us.

Remember: we are still in beta and need your feedback.

Can the Lobobay team do the optimizing for me?

We are oriented towards professionals, as far as our free services are concerned. The demands placed on the logo for a successful conversion should not present any insurmountable problems for a graphic artist. Unfortunately the Logobay team cannot be of assistance in the drafting of a logo. Please turn to the suggested steps for optimizing, or ask around among your colleagues. Google can also provide quick, secure and discrete support.
